Corporate Sustainability
Committee
With the launch of Sustainability strategy,
a corporate Sustainability Committee,
consisted of eight corporate vice
presidents and chaired by the company
COO was formed and is taking tangible
steps in furthering the company’s
commitment to sustainable development
and to oversee the sustainability
programme. The Corporate Sustainability
Committee function is detailed in “Our
governance” section.
An initial sustainability awareness
workshop was conducted to create a full
vision of the programme and to bring the
members to a common understanding of
our sustainability programme and their
role towards it. We also participated in the
Capacity Building programme of the
Abu Dhabi Sustainability Group,
compromised of a Guidance Handbook,
a Sustainability Maturity Assessment
Tool, Training and Awareness Courses
and Support Services to help us acquire
knowledge and to further build on our
own in house capacity to manage and
report on sustainability.
As for the hotels, we have amended
the company structure by adding the
Environment, Health & Safety positions to
our organisational structure: EHS directors,
EHS managers and EHS officers. We
have appointed 30 EHS team members
to manage the EHS and sustainability
programmes in the hotels and to report
their performances.
In April 2012, Rotana announced an expansive sustainability strategy
to be implemented at all new and 46 operating hotels, apartments
and resorts in the Middle East & Africa. It is a framework that
addresses environmental, economical and social sustainability. The
programme provides guidance for each property thus enabling
them to work towards excellence in sustainability throughout the
property’s operations.
